Just outside the town of Aspendell, The Cardinal Village was built in the early twentieth century to serve the gold miners that worked only a short hike away.  The mine shut down in the late ‘30s, and in 1946 the Cardinal Village opened to serve fishermen and their families.  Nowadays, Cardinal Village Resort is a perfectly placed camp for hiking or fishing trips.  Located in a beautiful aspen grove and bordered by the Bishop creek, which ends in a pond teeming with trout, we are the nearest resort to Piute Pass, Sabrina Basin, and Lamarck trailheads.  The Village is also only five minutes from the great fishing on Lake Sabrina, North Lake, Intake II, and the John Muir Trail.

Besides the great fishing and hiking, guided horseback tours of the gold mine are also offered.  Simply sign up with Bishop Pack Outfitters at the Cardinal Corral.  If you’d like to rent a motor boat or pontoon boat, Rick and Patti will be happy to help you down at the Sabrina Boat Landing.

Ready to start your High Sierra adventure?

With a rich history dating back over a 115 years, Cardinal Village Resort is the Eastern Sierra’s best kept secret!  Most of our cabins were built to serve the miners of the Cardinal Gold mine, and they have been renovated to include modern technologies while still preserving their original rustic appeal.  The only non original buildings are Thunder and Lightning, which is a duplex built in the 1970s, and the Resort’s latest addition, built in 1996, the Hungry Packer cabin. Every other cabin, including the main Lodge, which was the paymaster’s quarters, and Golden trout, our largest cabin, is an original building dating back to the turn of the century.

All cabins have kitchens that are supplied with indoor plumbing and basic utensils.  Outdoors, there is a barbeque, firepit, and picnic area at each cabin.

The Cardinal Village Resort gladly supplies the sheets, blankets, pillows, towels, and our own glycerin soap.  (Exception: Golden trout guests must provide their own sheets and towels.)

A two night minimum is required, three nights on holiday weekends.  Roll away beds are available for $15 per night.  A 50% deposit is due at the time of reservation.

Sorry, pets are not allowed.

Cardinal Cafe

We continue to serve the best hot breakfast on the mountain and burgers that’ll make ya say “WOW”. Not to mention the best coffee this side of Seattle! And the views can’t be beat!

We’re open seven days a week from 8:00 until 3:00.

We also serve Dinner on the Deck on Mondays and Tuesdays from mid June until mid August! Call for reservations.
