DeHaven Valley Farm is a unique California bed and breakfast by the beach, surrounded by twenty acres of meadows, hills and pastures with farm animals. This quaint California coastal resort features a hot tub, fireplaces, private baths and four-course dinners. It is a great retreat for Mendocino sightseeing or as an escape from the urban sprawl.

In the late 1800s and early 1900s, the house (built 1875) was the manor house for a 1000 acre sheep and cattle ranch. To the east was the town of DeHaven, population 300, built and owned by the Pollard Lumber Co. To the immediate south was the town of Westport, population 3000, an important shipping port with its two logging chutes (the longest in California).

But life proved too difficult on this part of the coast. The owner of the ranch and manor house moved his cattle further south. The lumber company shut down, and the town was ultimately destroyed by fire. The coastline rocks were too treacherous for ships despite the length of the chutes, and the train bypassed Westport for the (then) small army outpost, Fort Bragg. Westport's church fell off the cliff into the ocean (twice) and most people moved away to find new work.

Today, Westport is a quiet village, population 200. The manor house to the north still stands, more beautiful than ever, surrounded by twenty acres of meadows, rolling hills, trees and pastures, all right next to the Pacific Ocean. This is DeHaven Valley Farm.

Mendocino is a wonderful town to explore, with plenty of shops and art galleries. You can also take trails down to the beaches. You might recognize Mendocino as "Cabot Cove" from the TV show "Murder She Wrote".

If you enjoy flowers, be sure and visit the Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens, 2 miles south of Fort Bragg. It has 47 acres of inviting paths through the gardens, some of which lead to spectacular ocean views.

Go horseback riding at nearby Ricochet Ridge Ranch.  Ride the Skunk Train from Fort Bragg through the redwoods to Northspur or Willits.  Visit some of the numerous state parks in the area.  Travel north to the giant redwoods of Humboldt County, or to the magnificent wilderness of the Lost Coast.

A deposit of one night's lodging plus tax is required. A full refund will be made for cancellations received 72 hours in advance. On cancellation notice of less than 72 hours, deposits are refunded only if the room is rented. Reservations are required for dinner. Use of hot tub is included with room; private reservations are available. Children are welcome in the Acacia cottages, and children under six are free.

No smoking is allowed in the cottages or in any part of the main house. No pets are allowed.

DeHaven Valley Farm is available for business meetings, private parties, weddings, and your own special events.

DeHaven Cottage honeymoon cottage king-size bed Franklin stove bathroom with bathtub $139 plus tax DeHaven is the honeymoon cottage. It features a king-size bed, a Franklin stove and a private bathroom with a tub and shower. It is conveniently located near the stairs to the hot tub, and to the main house. It may optionally be set up with two twin beds. DeHaven can accommodate 3 people with an optional rollaway bed. The price is $139.00 plus tax per night. The cost for a third person is $25 plus tax per night.

Eagle's Nest large studio spectacular view Franklin stove private bathroom $144 plus tax The Eagle's Nest room is a favorite. It is a large studio with huge picture windows that look out over our beautiful valley for a fantastic view. There is a sitting area by the windows, a Franklin stove, a queen bed and private bathroom. It has its own staircase to a private entrance, and a door to the balcony. View through Picture Windows Eagle's Nest can accommodate 3 people with an optional second bed. The price is $144.00 plus tax per night. The cost for a third person is $25 plus tax per night.

Valley View original 1875 fireplace door to balcony private bathroom $119 plus tax The Valley View room has a fireplace, private bathroom and a queen bed. It is on the second floor with a door to the balcony. Valley View can accommodate 2 people. The price is $119.00 plus tax per night.

You can see the ocean while lying in bed. It can also be made up with two twins. Pacific can accommodate 2 people. The price is $94.00 plus tax per night

Meadow queen bed partial ocean view shares bathroom $89 plus tax The Meadow room has a queen size bed and shares a bathroom. It is on the second floor with a partial ocean view. Meadow can accommodate 2 people. The price is $89.00 plus tax per night.

Acacia I Cottage large family cottage living room & bedroom Franklin stove wet bar & refrigerator $144 plus tax Living Room with Sofa Bed and Wet Bar with Refrigerator Acacia I is our largest family cottage. It is a suite with living room, bedroom and bathroom. The living room has a Franklin stove, a wet bar, a refrigerator and a queen sofa bed. The bedroom has a queen bed. The bathroom has a bathtub with shower. Acacia I can accommodate 4 people, or a family of 5 with small children. The price (for 2 people) is $144.00 plus tax per night. The cost for each additional person is $25 plus tax per night. Children under 6 are free.

Acacia II Cottage family cottage living room & bedroom Franklin stove refrigerator $134 plus tax Acacia II is a family cottage. It is a suite with living room, bedroom and bathroom. The living room has a Franklin stove, a refrigerator and a full sofa bed. The bathroom has a bathtub with shower. The cottage also has a private deck that borders a field.      Acacia II can accommodate 3 people, or a family of 4 with small children. The price is $134.00 plus tax per night.
